Making Surgery Bearable

The Affiliates raise funds for the Make Surgery Bearable program twice a year, once in December through the holiday campaign, and again in May at its Mother’s Day Ice Cream Social held at the Institute. These two campus events raise awareness about the program and solicit sponsorships. Walking to Prevent Blindness 

Several hundred walkers descend upon UCLA’s Dickson Court each year for the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ (FFB) annual VisionWalk. The event, supported by both the Jules Stein Eye Institute and volunteers from the JSEI Affiliates, raise funds to support FFB’s retinal eye disease research.

Walkers participate on the JSEI “Volunteers with Vision” team and stroll a five kilometer loop though UCLA’s beautiful north campus in support of FFB. As a lead sponsor of VisionWalk, the Jules Stein Eye Institute has participated in research on a number of inherited retinal diseases and received grants for continued study of vision loss treatment and prevention.
