Patient Information Kiosk

Patients visiting the Jules Stein Eye Institute searching for information on eye diseases, treatment options, and current clinical trials have a new source for information – the JSEI Affiliates’ Patient Information Kiosk! Located in the Pediatric Suite on the second floor of the Doris Stein Eye Research Center and sponsored by the JSEI Affiliates, the kiosk is available to all Institute patients and guests. The kiosk provides access to pertinent medical websites including the National Eye Institute (NEI) and Jules Stein Eye Institute websites and streamlines the information so it is user-friendly and easy to access.

The kiosk was designed to be an easy access tool to assist patients in researching information on various eye disorders and diseases. The hope is that it will provide an additional online resource for JSEI patients to help make their overall experience at JSEI more enjoyable. If you are interested in learning more about the kiosk, drop in and try it out on your next visit!  

Patient Lending Library 

The JSEI Affiliates and its members assist in financially supporting the UCLA Vision Rehabilitation Center (VRC) at the Jules Stein Eye Institute. The Affiliates provide matching funds for an annual collection drive to raise money for their MagniVision program, which allows for the purchase of low-vision aids for the VRC’s lending library. This collection allows patients to assess and utilize vision aids before they purchase their own to ensure that the assistive device meets their needs.

Institute Beautification Projects 

In 2009, the Affiliates refurbished the JSEI Family Waiting Room on the Institute’s “A” Level next to the Operating Rooms. The room, dedicated in honor of the Affiliates founding President Mrs. Ruth Straatsma, was decked out with new furniture, new artwork, and a fresh coat of paint. In addition, the Affiliates provide several magazines subscriptions for the room, providing family members and friends with reading material while they wait.
