Marcia, who received both her BS (1967) and MS (1969) degrees from
UCLA, has been a staff member since 1970 in the Jules Stein
Eye Institute laboratory of Professor Dean Bok. Over this
thirty year period, Marcia has been directly involved in much
of the research that has been conducted in Dr. Bok's laboratory,
as well as supervising the work of the professional and support
staff, undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral
fellows and medical students who spend time in the laboratory.
Marcia is a highly skilled electron microscopist and spends considerable
time training others in the use of the JSEI electron microscope,
as well as many of the lab's research techniques.
Marcia, as a member of the JSEI Affiliates Advisory Committee, has
been very active in the Vision In-School program sponsored
by the National Eye Institute, where she visits elementary
school classrooms throughout Los Angeles, teaching fourth
and fifth grade students about the function of the eye and
promoting vision safety.
Marcia and her husband Jeff, have been married 31 years and are the
proud parents of Kim, a VISTA attorney working at the Legal
Aid Foundation of Chicago, Stephanie, a staff member at the
Harvard School of Public Health's Center for Cancer Prevention
and entering the University of Pennsylvania Law School in
the fall, and Zachary, a sophomore at Stanford.
